The Ionosat space system is developed under the Ukraine’s National Special-purpose Scientific and Technical Space Program.

Description
Features

The Ionosat space system is developed for long-term spatial and temporal monitoring of major field and plasma parameters of Earth’s ionosphere to ensure:

  • development of fundamental scientific insight into physics of solar-terrestrial relationship
  • space weather monitoring and prediction
  • prediction of natural and man-made catastrophes, including for exploring the possibility of seismic activity prediction.

SCIENTIFIC PAYLOAD

  • Wave complex
  • Neutral particles sensors
  • Radiofrequency analyzer
  • Full electron content meter
  • Data collection/processing unit

The scientific equipment can be supplemented, for example, with a scintillation telescope, sun photometer, or other devices provided by interested organizations, including those from abroad.

The orbital constellation includes three satellites with the same or similar scientific payload. The satellites create a triangular configuration. Distances between the satellites can be changed and can range from several dozens to several thousands of kilometers, which will enable simultaneous many-positional measurements of ionospheric parameters with different configurations of the satellites relative position.
