A magnetorquer is a propulsion element in the magnetic attitude control system of a satellite. It generates a dipole magnetic moment.

The sensor is reliable and does not require maitenance during storage and operation. It is capable of sustaining higher dynamic loads.

As compared to gas-jet nozzles, magnetorquers do not consume any working medium (compressed gas, propellant)
